Question:  Is there curbside collection for hazardous waste?

Answer: There is no curbside collection for hazardous waste. However, we do have curbside collection for household batteries as well as motor oil. To properly dispose of batteries, please place all batteries inside a clear heavy duty plastic bag and put the bag on top of the recycling bin, NOT inside the bin. The driver will come and take the batteries off of the lid when they come to collect your recycled materials.

For motor oil collection, each household may call and request up to 2 used motor oil containers and a heavy duty zip lock bag for recycling of up to 2 used motor filters. On your regular collection day just place the container(s) at the curb and AVI will replace them with empties for your next use.

AVI also hosts an annual household hazardous waste drop off event every Spring. Watch your mailbox for more information on event location and date. You can also drop off your household hazardous waste to one of the Alameda County Household Hazardous Waste facilities year round. For more information, visit Stopwaste.org/HHW

Question:  I heard AVI has a new textile recycling program! How does it work?

Answer: AVI does offer a curbside textile recycling program, where you can put your clean, dry, and lightly used clothing for adults, children, and babies as well as stuffed animals, bedding, and towels in a clear plastic bag curbside by 6am on your scheduled pick up day. This textile collection program is available the first full week of January, April, July, and October. To schedule your pickup, please call our Customer Service Representatives at (925) 479-9545.
